Family Tax Benefit Part A (FTB-A) is a payment per child to help with the cost of raising children. For the 2025-26 financial year, the maximum rate is $227.36 per fortnight for a child aged 0 to 12 years, and $295.82 per fortnight for a child aged 13 to 19 years (if they meet study requirements). The rate depends on your family income and the number of children.
Family Tax Benefit Part B (FTB-B) is a per-family payment that provides extra assistance to single-parent families and couples with one main income earner. For the 2025-26 financial year, the maximum rate is $193.34 per fortnight when the youngest child is under 5, and $134.96 per fortnight when the youngest child is 5 to 18 years old.
For FTB-A (2025-26), you can get the maximum rate if your family's adjusted taxable income is $66,722 or less. The rate reduces by 20 cents for each dollar over $66,722, down to the base rate. Above $118,771, it reduces by 30 cents per dollar until nil. For FTB-B, the primary earner income limit is $120,007. The secondary earner can earn up to $6,935 before payments are reduced.
Yes. To be eligible you must hold a qualifying visa (such as permanent residency or certain temporary visas), live in Australia, and care for a dependent child for at least 35% of the time. Some waiting periods may apply for newly arrived residents under the Newly Arrived Resident's Waiting Period.
You can claim FTB through Centrelink via myGov. You can choose to receive fortnightly payments during the year or claim a lump sum after lodging your tax return. Claiming fortnightly requires you to estimate your annual family income. If your actual income differs, Centrelink will balance your payments after the financial year ends.
The FTB Part A supplement is an annual top-up payment of up to $938.05 per eligible child for the 2025-26 financial year. It is paid after Centrelink balances your payments at the end of the financial year. To be eligible your family's adjusted taxable income must be $80,000 or less.
Yes, but only if the youngest child is under 13 years of age. Couples are subject to a two-part income test: the primary earner (higher income) must earn no more than $120,007, and the secondary earner (lower income) can earn up to $6,935 before payments reduce. Payments reduce by 20 cents for each dollar over $6,935 for the secondary earner.
