Who Can Get It?

FTB Part A eligibility

  • You care for a dependent child who is either:
  • Your family passes the FTB Part A income test (maximum rate available if family income ≤ $66,722)
  • You meet residence rules
  • You care for the child at least 35% of the time

FTB Part B eligibility

  • You are a single parent, non-parent carer, or grandparent carer with a dependent child under 18; or a couple where the youngest child is under 13
  • You pass the FTB Part B income test — primary earner must earn no more than $120,007
  • You meet residence rules
  • You care for the child at least 35% of the time

How the Income Test Works

FTB Part A uses a two-step income test based on your family's combined adjusted taxable income:

  • $66,722 or less — you receive the maximum rate
  • $66,722 to $118,771 — payment reduces by 20 cents for each dollar over $66,722 (down to the base rate of $72.94/fortnight per child)
  • Over $118,771 — payment reduces by 30 cents for each dollar over $118,771, until nil

FTB Part B uses a two-part income test:

  • The primary earner (higher income) must earn no more than $120,007
  • The secondary earner (lower income) can earn up to $6,935 with no reduction; above that, payments reduce by 20 cents per dollar
