What is Child Care Subsidy?

Child care subsidy is a support from Australian government to help you cover a portion of cost of child care when

  • The child is not attending secondary school or under 18 with disabilities.
  • You use an approved child care service
  • You care for your child at least 2 nights per fortnight, or have 14% care
  • You must meet the residence rules
  • Your child must meet the immunisation requirements

What can affect how much child care subsidy you can get

  • Your Child Care Subsidy percentage will apply to the lowest of either the hourly:
    • rate cap
    • fee you’re charged by your child care service.
  • The hourly rate cap is based on the type of child care service you are taking
    • Centre Based Day Care - $13.73
    • Family Day Care - $12.72
    • Outside School Hours Care - $13.73
    • In Home Care - $37.34 per family
  • The base rate is the lower value of your actual child care rate and the rate cap above.
  • If you have two children under 6, the government will help you pay up to 95.00% of the base rate when your family income is not higher than $138,188.00
  • If not, the government will help you pay up to 90.00% of the base rate when your family income is not higher than $80,000.00
  • Based on your activity level, you may get up to 100 hours of child care subsidy from government fortnightly
