About the PPL scheme

The Australian Government Paid Parental Leave scheme pays eligible parents at the National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate. From 1 July 2025, primary carers can access up to 22 weeks.

The weekly rate is based on the National Minimum Wage of $24.10/hour × 38 hours = $915.80/week (2025–26). This rate is updated by the Fair Work Commission each July.

PPL is taxable income and is paid through your employer (or directly by Services Australia in some cases). You must be the primary carer and meet work and income tests. Source: Services Australia (servicesaustralia.gov.au/paid-parental-leave).
