How much does an Australian partner visa cost in 2025?

The main application fee for both the onshore (820/801) and offshore (309/100) partner visa is AUD 8,850 for the primary applicant. The second instalment (permanent visa stage) costs an additional AUD 4,990. Additional costs include health exams (~$450), police checks (~$150), and optional migration agent fees.

What is the difference between 820/801 and 309/100?

The 820/801 pathway is for applicants who are already in Australia at the time of application (onshore). The 309/100 pathway is for applicants who are outside Australia at the time of lodgement (offshore). Both have the same government fees but different processing timelines.

When do I pay the second instalment?

You pay the Stage 2 (second instalment) fee when you are invited to apply for the permanent visa, typically 2–3 years after lodging the temporary visa application, once your relationship has been assessed.

Do I need a migration agent for a partner visa?

You do not legally need a migration agent — you can apply directly through ImmiAccount. However, many applicants use a Registered Migration Agent (RMA) to help compile evidence and navigate the complex requirements. Agent fees typically range from $2,000 to $5,000.

Are there additional costs for children included on the application?

Yes. Each secondary applicant (including dependent children) attracts additional government fees, their own health examination costs, and potentially additional police checks. This calculator covers the primary applicant only.
